Statement
My work explores the ways in which current photographic technologies are pushing the boundaries of the medium, enabling the creation of manipulated images while upholding their authenticity. New technologies, such as AI, have become integral to the editing and printing processes, giving rise to infographics and subtexts that coexist alongside traditional modes of visual perception. These images are now omnipresent and easily disseminated.
In my academic research, I explore how institutions foster innovation. This exploration has significantly influenced my studio practice, empowering me to purposefully harness digital imaging to integrate other media and critique current hybridization practices within contemporary art. In doing so, I aim to unravel the relative autonomy and versatile nature of art.
By drawing from actor-network theory (e.g., Latour) and strategic-tactic theories (e.g., Certeau), along with other sources and media developments influencing audience expectations, I aim to understand how these elements shape and mediate collective experiences. My work primarily sits at the intersection of art, social science, and economics in the realm of new media, investigating contemporary art practices as intentional and diverse, yet instrumental activities.
Ultimately, my research centers on the increasing support for revisionist, disruptive practices by institutions as part of developing new frameworks and evolving cultural strategies. These endeavors seek to redefine traditional activist and countercultural practices as repositories of institutional tropes.
